The Experience

You and your guests will find traveling aboard your private railcar is a transformative experience, an unforgettable exploration of ever-changing scenery enjoyed from within an elegant, timeless setting.

A typical daytrip begins at the historic Los Angeles Union Station, a model of Spanish Revival architecture. Inside the majestic waiting room, flourishes of Art Deco and Streamline Moderne design recall the era when rail travel was at its peak, and when privileged travelers enjoyed the privacy and luxury of their own railcars.

Stepping off the platform and into the railcar, your invitees will be charmed and fascinated by the remarkable design and décor created by the train’s architect, James Park of London, the man who also designed the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.

There to greet your guests with a warm welcome will be the friendly, attentive staff of the American Railway Explorer. Guests can help themselves to an array of pastries and hot breakfast offerings, as well as breakfast beverages.

Soon, the Amtrak train tugs gently at the railcar. The scenic coastal journey is underway.

As we at American Railway Explorer have seen countless times, the shared experience and intimate atmosphere are certain to spark camaraderie, conversation and new friendships among your guests as together they enjoy the ever-changing coastal scenery.

Along the way, a member of our American Railway Explorer staff will greet your guests personally, answer any questions they may have, and provide information about the railcar’s design and history.

In three hours or less, the train will arrive at the San Diego or Santa Barbara station. While the railcars are repositioned for your return trip, your guests can explore and enjoy the local shopping, dining and tourism attractions on their own, or participate in a group excursion you may wish to organize.

By mid- to late-afternoon, your guests will re-board, where they can relax, enjoy a snack and a cocktail on the return trip, or perhaps be treated to a hot buffet dinner.

Soon, the train pulls back into Union Station, and your guests will depart, taking with them an indelible memory and lasting appreciation for having been treated to this one-of-a-kind experience.
